Sunday Night Chick Flick

So I know PBS has already started their new format of Masterpiece Theater, but I finally got around to watching Persuasion last night. I am so excited for this series of Jane Austen movies. Arthur, of course, is not too thrilled that I will be filling up our TiVo with these movies. You can't feel too much sympathy for him since he did know about my Pride and Prejudice obsession before he asked for my hand in marriage. If you are not familiar with the new format, here is a preview (or just visit the PBS website):

Ha! I too have them set for TiVo. I have yet to have a moment to watch, but I am anxious to maybe create a marathon showing.

I just found out about it this week from my roommate. We watched Persuasion last night, too. And I am a HUGE fan of the new, hotter than ever Captain Wentworth. He may even rival Mr. Darcy. I know, blasphemy. Sorry! And have you seen this link on the PBS website? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/austen/menofausten.html
Who's your favorite Austen man?

Becky - How dare you speak about Mr. Darcy like that! I don't know if I can speak to you anymore! J/K!

You know, I was actually disappointed in Persuasion. Captain Wentworth had a ton of potential, but I really missed watching the courtship between him and Miss Elliot. I think the two of them said like 6 words to each other. It was a little rushed. But, I definitely still got chills when he proclaimed his love. Although Capt. Wentworth is hotter than Darcy, he still doesn't come close to beating him as a leading man.

Love that link, though! Wentworth's $15 Mill income does tempt me to choose him over Darcy's meager $6 Mill!

I am so excited about this series! I also have a tiny little Austen obsession and am looking forward to the 6 hour pride and prejudice!

I actually like the 1995 Persuasion better. I do think that the new Wentworth is reason alone to watch the new one but the earlier cast was much better (even though the are a bit old and not as pretty). I didn't like the way they portrayed Anne's sister as totally crazy rather than annoying. It is also longer so the story is better developed, the new one felt rushed.

Hope that isn't a trend - the latest Pride and Prejudice with Kira Knightly seemed very rushed, too. I must say, though, I liked most of the Bennetts better in the new one. They seemed believably (even lovably) flawed, rather than tooth-gratingly annoying.
